‘Possessed’ Woman in Chinese Supermarket Calmed Down By Exorcism, Caught on CCTV

'Possessed people' caught on tape raise a lot of questions. Is this video real?

This CCTV footage of a Chinese woman being ‘possessed’ in a supermarket and undergoing an impromptu exorcism was uploaded to Youku, the Chinese equivalent of Youtube. When the video appeared on Youtube, it was originally mistitled “Strange Demonic Possession in Korea”.

The woman is caught on camera dropping to her knees, shaking. Then, she lets out a blood-curdling scream. A passer-by, a man in a black tee-shirt, comes into shot and seems to initiate a form of ritual exorcism. What follows is a bizarre gush of wind and temporary distortion of the CCTV.

Who is the man in black? And why does he appear just in time to perform an exorcism?

After the completion of the ritual, both the price sign and the basket shelving to the right of the frame move - apparently moved by some unseen force. However, why does the shopping basket on the floor remain still? Could it be that the shopping basket is in full shot, and unlike the other two cannot be moved by someone who is standing just beyond the reach of the camera...

Demonic possession is held by many belief systems to be the spirit possession of an individual by a malevolent preternatural being, commonly known as a demon. Descriptions of demonic possessions often include erased memories or personalities, convulsions (i.e. epileptic seizures) and fainting as if one were dying. Other descriptions include access to hidden knowledge (gnosis) and foreign languages (xenoglossy), drastic changes in vocal intonation and facial structure, the sudden appearance of injuries (scratches, bite marks) or lesions, and superhuman strength. Unlike in channeling, the subject has no control over the possessing entity and so it will persist until forced to leave the victim, usually through a form of exorcism.
