Nothing is more entertaining then to stop at the old shoe tree located near historic Middlegate. Their are a few in the west but this is one of the best as the shoes thrown up on the limbs of this Ione Cottonwood have seemed to become that of art. It is a strange site how it all started who knows but I heard that on the night of a couples wedding they had gotten into some kind of fight and tossed the first set up into the tree. Urban legends are great but my guess would be is someone started it and the rest all followed. This perhaps is one of the funner sites that can be seen along highway 50 that cost nothing but a few moments of your time. Many of the shoes are on the ground not everyone of them found a limb and the ones that did have blown down.
