Adolf von Nassau (1540-1568)
Adolf von Nassau (Dillenburg, July 11, 1540 - Heiligerlee, May 23, 1568) was the fourth son of Willem de Rijke and Juliana van Stolberg. Adolf was the second youngest brother of William von Orange (William the Silent).

The Graaf Adolf monument is a large Dutch monument (memorial) commemorating the battle of Heiligerlee from 1568, which, according to traditional Dutch historiography, is said to have started the Eighty Years' War. The current monument dates from 1873 and is named after Count Adolf of Nassau, who fought on the State side and died in the battle. The monument is located on the west side of the village of Heiligerlee, in the west of the municipality of Oldambt, in the province of Groningen. Count Adolf van Nassau Park has been constructed around the statue. During the construction of the current monument, a black poplar was planted in this park, which with a circumference of more than 6 meters is one of the thickest trees in the province of Groningen.
