Ok, so Great Pyramid and the Sphinx were pretty impressive. Hell, all the pyramids are, but I had to get out of Cairo and find somewhere less noisy in Egypt. I went to Hurghada, about 500KM South of Cairo, on the Red Sea coast. Hurghada is completely surrounded by desert and it's coastline is well-known to divers and water-sports enthusiasts. Hurghada is not as crowded with tourists as Sharm El Sheikh, either. And so far, fewer people have been killed in shark attacks. Anyway, if you're looking to holiday in Egypt, Hurghada is a good place to find a nice, safe resort to base yourself in and is not too far from Cairo, if you want to see the pyramids and museum, or Luxor, if you want to see the Valley of the Kings, or take a balloon ride. Aswan is a bit of a trek, but it's a much shorter one from Hurghada than from Cairo. There is also a ferry that will take you to Sharm El Sheikh if you want to see sun-burned tourists, get eaten by sharks, or you could always go to Dahab and go off into the desert with the Bedouin for a night. - Mellowb1rd
