So a couple of months back I headed off to Italy, visiting Milan and Rome. Obviously during my trip I came across a few abandoned locations, but this was the first. An abandoned mental asylum or psychiatric hospital, just outside the city, a place where electroconvulsive therapy was developed and Napoleon once lived. Originally a large villa, where it occupied the famous Napoleon Bonaparte, it became abandoned in the late 1800's, when it became a mental asylum for the city. After the Italian Mental Health Act of 1978, the asylum at Mombello was shut down and the property fell into disuse soon after.
