Built in 1778, Fort Laurens was the only American Revolutionary fort in Ohio. It was built to act as a staging area for troops to attack the British in Detroit. With a harsh winter approaching, the attacks were delayed and men were attacked and standard at the fort over the harsh winter. With no wood for heat and no food, they were forced to try and boil their moccasins in order to try make soup for nourishment.
