During the Comstock Lodes mining boom many families moved into the Virginia City area during the 1800's. After the Great Fire of 1875 the Fourth Ward School opened its doors to nearly 1000 students in 1876 with its 16 large class rooms it was the only place of education west of the Mississippi that had plumbing, running water and even a heating system. Today the school is rumored to be haunted personally my theory is with history also comes ghosts. I can promise you that there is no other school like this in the country!
