Hey folks! Here at home where my wife and I are on the journey to becoming as much self reliant as possible, things are taking shape little by little. We are taking 1 step at a time doing just what we can afford little by little. The things that are taking money that we don't have to spare right now, should pay off in the long run. At the beginning of this year we purchased 2 peach trees and 1 more apple tree. Our plans are to have the whole front yard filled with rolls of fruit trees and vines. In the back yard we plan to have all raised beds for veggies. And if all goes well that will be our retirement plan, selling fruit and vegetables all summer every year right out of our front yard and maybe go to the farmers market to sell some when ever we can. We are a very poor family as most of you already know. I am disabled to work but not on disability. We live from pay check to pay check from my wife's job which isn't much. Every little penny literally counts in this family. We are getting on up there in age, with no retirement funds and no savings accounts. We have about 300.00 more going out each month than what we have coming in. So my plan is to get all of these fruits and vegetables growing, and sell what I build in woodworking and possibly my art work and just what ever I can come up with that my body will physically allow me to do. We want to become self reliant. With all of that being said, I have been wanting to start canning forever but we never could seem to afford any canning equipment. We my wife surprised me with this canning kit I received in the mail. I was so excited. All of my garden has already been harvested and ate this year and some of it given away as well, and so now all I have left that I can start canning are the pears off of one of our pear trees. Our other trees haven't started producing yet but we have plenty of pears.
