Built by the AIS Native Indians Several Hundred Years Before Columbus' Arrival, this Historic and Ancient Site Overlooks the Scenic Indian River along South Florida's Treasure Coast. This Mound likely marks the AIS Northern Capital Lookout Point.
In modern history the site was also home to an Army Fort built during the Second Seminole War by Col. Benjamin Pierce, brother to the 14th U.S. President Franklin Pierce, and was a strategic resupply location that housed between 1500 and 2100 U.S. Army soldiers.
Built atop this sacred Indian Mound, the Fort only lasted from 1832-1842, before it was mysteriously burned to the ground for no apparent reason.
