Iowa Hill - Part 3 "Hidden Gems"

I begin our journey to Iowa Hill by departing Placer Big Tree Grove heading over Mosquito Ridge and through the Tahoe National Forest following high above the Foresthill Divide. In the beginning of the clip you will see a massive cloud of dust stirred up by cattle being rounded up and herded on a logging road. Eventually ill take you through a barren burnt forest and ended up on the shores of Morning Star Lake today known as Big Reservoir. Back in the day Morning Star was merely a camp perhaps as far as id say suburb of Iowa Hill. Allot of miners did Placer or Hydraulic Mining along the various tributaries of the American River. After this forested hidden gem we moved on to Sugar Pine Reservoir another gem damming Shirttail creek in 1982 creating this reservoir to be used to provide drinking water for the residents of Foresthill. Today both lakes serve as outdoor Mecca's for those who reside up in Iowa Hill and outdoor enthusiast. You can see that its very smoky out that is because during the filming of this clip the King Fire out near Auburn was raging out of control. Therefore during our hike out at both lakes we were under a smoke watch. These small lakes truly are Iowa Hills gems definitely worth a gander if you like to fish, camp, swim or boat. While I love to indulge in history I also like to incorporate the outdoors into what we do.
