The Old Iowa Hill Cemetery you see in this clip has three sections Protestant, Masonic and I.O.O.F. internments. Although this is called the old cemetery it is not the first downtown their use to be a cemetery dating back to the founding of the town which was bulldozed to build a homestead however no less this is one of the finest pioneer cemeteries in the mother lode. The first burial that took place here was a little Sarah Ann Lodge whom was buried here in 1856. Many of the pioneers buried here were miners some meant some very tragic ends such as a father and a son who both died in landslides years apart. Others buried here died in epidemics or accidents. While you are watching this clip ill talk about some of the notable burials here such as who they were and how they died. Some pioneers came to Iowa Hill seeking wealth and to live out there lives here others simply never made it out! These graves tell a story about those who braved this rugged wilderness combing the hillsides for gold even if it costs them their lives. This pioneer graveyard is nestled in the Tahoe National Forest outside of town people who lived lives of love, hardship, success and failure all found buried here on Banjo Hill.
