Name: John Denver
(December 31, 1943 – October 12, 1997)

Though he composed and sang some of the most peaceful and beautiful songs of his generation, John Denver fought demons and an addiction to alcohol.
Denver was not legally permitted to fly at the time of the accident.
Denver’s life ended suddenly when the plane he was flying, an experimental Rutan Long-EX, crashed into Monterey Bay near Pacific Grove, Calif.
Post-accident investigation by the NTSB showed that the leading cause of the accident was Denver's inability to switch fuel tanks during flight.
John Denver was not born in Colorado or West Virginia. Denver was actually born in Roswell, N.M. as Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. (December 31, 1943 – October 12, 1997)
His divorce from Annie Denver Anne Martell was a bitter battle: The woman who inspired “Annie’s Song,” which was written on a ski lift in 10 minutes, battled John over the division of property during their 1982 divorce proceedings. John Denver became so enraged with his estranged wife that he tried to choke her. He then took a chainsaw to their marital bed and sawed it in half.
He married again and lived in Aspen continuously until his death.
Funeral services were held at Faith Presbyterian Church in Aurora, Colorado, on October 17, 1997, officiated by Pastor Les Felker, a retired Air Force chaplain, following which Denver's remains were cremated and his ashes were scattered in the Rocky Mountains.

“Death is not an ending, but a symbol of movement along the path upon which we are all traveling. As it may be painful to lose contact with the physical aspect of one we love, the Spirit can never be lost. We have been and always will be a part of each other.”
— John Denver
