This is an awesome journey that will begin in the 40 mile desert then ascend up into the Stillwater Mountain Range which really is cattle country. Mountain Well was part of a mining district in the ghost town of La Plata which at one time mined silver. Back in the day the pioneers came here from many other nearby towns such as Wonder, Fairview, Hercules, White Cloud City, Pony Express and even the Overland Stage Route to harvest the water from its three fruitful springs. Ranchers would raise livestock and cattle which in turn would be food for the miners who lived up in La Plata. Today the ranches are long gone but you will see windmills, corrals, pipes and a few pieces of wood. Not much has changed since Mountain Well has always been utilized for farming. Back in the day it was a rural community a few miles from La Plata but it was also served for its residents who were not miners but perhaps ranchers. The journey is rather scenic with views of the Carson Sink, Desertscapes, Picturesque cliffs backdropping the canyon and along the way a few herds of cattle which have been utilizing the spring water here for a 150 years. If Mountain Well was never discovered its possible La Plata may have never existed. We also invite to enjoy the gallery and music at the end of the clip.
