This gold mining town was said to have grossed nearly 20 million in bullion named after William Johns the manager of the Eureka - Plumas Mine. At one time as many as four hundred residents lived in this remote town in the high sierras mining begin around 1849 but the town came later in the 1870s as prospectors flooded the area. Like any major boom town their was a school, church, blacksmith, hotels, saloons, assay office, cemetery, general store, livery stable and even a post office. Today Johnsville is a semi - ghost town and while residents do live here many historic remnants of the past remain reminding us of what once was. Rumor has it that the ghost of a little girl name Mancel Moriarty who died of rheumatoid fever. This teaser trailer is a compilation of my exploration of Johnsville featuring downtown, cemetery, scenery and some other historic gems. I did do a full length movie but we cannot find it and its missing so instead I put this trailer together. We are returning in a couple months to film our documentary here this truly is an amazing example of an early gold rush town deep within the high sierras. Unfortunately much has been loss due to fires which plagued the town and eventually the exhaustion of the mines led to Johsnville becoming more of a place for hikers, skiers and outdoor enthusiast rather then mining. Please make sure you visit Johnsville on our website to see and learn more about the history in depth at:
