A 19-year-old man was charged with second-degree murder in connection to the death of 18-year-old Nicolas Quintal in the Pontiac, Que., region.

Quebec's provincial police force arrested Daniel Sempels, 19, on Sunday after the naked body of Quintal was found near an abandoned vehicle earlier Sunday.

Police said Quintal was beaten with a blunt object and said the accused and the victim were "friends". Sempels was formally charged during a brief court appearance Monday.

It is quite hard to do investigations outside. Between the frogs, the crickets, and all the other noises, things get very contaminated. We were looking to see if anything stood out, but glad to see the scene was quite peaceful. Our thoughts are with the victim and his family. Very sad story
