Their is no debate about it that the Stampede reservoir one of the largest bodies of water in the region is suffering. The reservoir was formed with Sagehen Creek and the Little Truckee River. Unfortunately due to drought, global warming and heavy water usage its 25 miles of shoreline has been narrowed in half. The dam and reservoir were part of the Washoe Project constructed in 1951 today where deep waters should be are now being reclaimed once again by nature as foliage is bouncing back. On this journey ill take you across a land bridge in the center of the reservoir as I film amazing birds and show you some of the vast mountain scenery in the distance. We did get a little muddy as some areas of the reservoir still have saturated ground water others are completely dry. We would begin to hike around what at one time was a peninsula to journey to the confluence of the reservoir and Little Truckee River. We found a massive craw fish exoskeleton along the way, beautiful blue to violet birds and even had a massive firefighter copter swoop down behind our backs to scoop up some water to fight a forest fire in the region. As beautiful as it is to hike near the reservoir just look around its a scary scenario.
