The Southern Ghost Hunters investigated the Crime and Punishment Museum, a hanging jail built in 1906, nicknamed Turner Castle by the inmates it once housed. The sheriff and his family lived on the ground floor; and the prisoners were held in cells upstairs. That arrangement ultimately led to the jail's demise in 1993. After climbing the stairs to the 2nd floor several times, the sheriff told the noisy prisoners,to "quiet down!' The prisoners responded by clogging their toilets which flooded the sheriff's home on the 1st floor. The sheriff then locked the building, boarded up the windows, and left the prisoners to live in their own mess for about a week. Eventually the state police arrived, transferred the inmates, and closed the jail down. After much cleanup, the city turned the old jail into a museum and opened it to the public.
