This hillside relic that resides on a small knoll that overlooks the town is the historic site where so many early ranches who came to this valley permanently rest. Its a place where one can enjoy a shady walk through the national forest as the trees provide some sense that you truly are a home away from a home. Many of the interments here are of Italian decent and each grave tells a story. It is a story about the battles these early pioneers braved in a frontier that was unknown to them. Not all ranchers and pioneers made it while some ranch successful farms generation after generations many of the young had fallen ill. Besides all the wonderful historic relics found in downtown Sierraville this cemetery which resides on the outskirts of town is a very large piece of the towns lively past. The town of Sierraville was established in the early 1850s and these ranchers utilized the valley below to reap its fertile benefits. Many of the homes, street names and historical buildings were named after many of the people found buried here.
