St Stephens Historic Cemetery - Old Drytown California

St. Stephens Cemetery was erected as the Catholic Parish of Drytown California and early gold rush town plagued by fire and drought. The earliest burial known here is 1863 of a pioneer who died in a wagon accident. This cemetery that resides on a hill reminds us of some of the areas first Catholic emigrants who came to Drytown seeking its riches and prosperity. The cemetery was part of our journey to New Chicago and Drytown Exploration. Their is even an older cemetery nearby but its not accessible as it resides on a local cattle farm. We decided to have a cookout here and do some research before we would move onto other locations in Drytown which will be our next movie coming out. You will notice in this video clip a stone foundation with a bell residing on top of it. That foundation is all that is left of the old Catholic Church which burned down and was never rebuilt. At the time I filmed this video I had presumed that the bell belonged to the local fire station in town because often when a fire occurred the bell could be rung so that they could alert the townsfolk and firemen. But the more I think about it this is a fairly large bell and it probably was mounted up at the top of the steeple for its church. Which means when it burnt down all that was left was a foundation and the churches bell probably which is why its sits near the entrance as you enter the cemetery. This is a park like setting type of serene cemetery on a hill surrounded by pastures, trees, nature and wild western history.
