Turkish fighter jets shot down a Sukhoi Su-24M Fencer, which they accused of having violated Turkish airspace, on Tuesday. Russia says the plane did not violate Turkish airspace.

The two pilots of the Russian jet ejected out of the targeted jet as it was going down in flames. While one of the Russian pilots was killed by militants in Syria, no information was available on the second.

This information is still being updated in mainstream media, but the pilot was picked up by the Syrian army after he ejected. The Syrian army also rescued the rescue helicopter that went searching for the pilots, that itself came under rebel fire. The helicopter had 12 original crew on board.
