Following on from their overnight investigation of the infamous Loftus Hall in Co. Wexford, the Wexford Paranormal team were invited to carry out n overnight investigation in the historic Athenaeum in Enniscorthy.

The Athenaeum was built in 1892 as a new town hall for Enniscorthy and was established as a theatre in 1897. Over the years, many important and very influential people have appeared on the Athenaeum stage, including Count John McCormack in 1905 and Dr. Douglas Hyde, then President of the Gealic league in 1901. Michael Macliammoir and Hilton Edwards met for the first time on the Athenaeum stairs in June 1927. Padraig Pearse spoke in the Athenaeum on many occasions, the last time shortly before his execution.

Shorthy before Easter 1916, the Irish Volunteers in Enniscorthy received the order from from Padraig Pearse and his comrades to rise up and it was the Athenaeum they chose as their headquarters. The tricolor was raised over the building and they held control until ordered to surrender by Padraig Pearse. When news of the general surrender in Dublin reached Athenaeum, the Volunteers asked that the surrender be confirmed and Captain Seamus Doyle and Captain Seán R. Etchingham were taken from ther Athenaeum to Dublin to meet Padraig Pearse in Arbor Hill, after which the Enniscorthy Volunteers surrendered unconditionally.

The Athenaeum is steeped in history and Wexford Paranormal were delighted to have the opportunity to investigate. What happened? Well, you'll have to watch the video to find out...
