What was the horrid noise that a group of high school students heard late at night? Could it have been a Banshee?

Here is a preview of the story.
“What was happening? We then heard a wailing scream that sounded like what you would imagine a banshee would sound like, and I happened to look at my odometer. The last three digits were 666. Holy shit! Of course, we got out of there as quickly as we could. We were not that religious, but it scared us. I think he even got his mom's rosary out when we got back to his house because he was so scared. I am not sure if this is common knowledge, but it is believed that banshees follow certain Irish families to warn them of danger. I do not know if we heard evil spirits or ghosts, but it was scary, and we heard a wail that sounded like a banshee.”
