In the 1930's brothers Kenneth and Raymond Kitchen decided to buy plats of land on Fair Avenue in Santa Cruz California. While Raymond built what was known as Stone Castle it was his brother Kenneth aka Claire or Clarence that ran a local goat farm where it started off with just a bar and small home. Behind his barn he built a scriptorium for his books on eastern mysticism which in turn he begin to expand it into a Hindi Yogi Temple working in the late hours of the night hauling stone and brick in via classy car.

His gate of prophecy had a plaque with four stars, our sun and moon on it with one that matched over the mantle of the fireplace. It is said that when they both align with our solar system this would signify the end times are near but Kenneth would never reside in his temple long enough to ever see an alignment.

During WWII German U-boats and Japanese submarines were attacking merchant ships just off Santa Cruz thus Kenneth devised his anti submarine stopping device where one tower scrambled signals while the other one received them. In fact it was so useful the US Navy decided to pay Kenneth a visit because it was interfering in their ships as well. For awhile Kenneth vanished some say he was working for the government at least neighbors thought the brothers were spies and when he returned he never finished his two story temple as a matter in fact he vanished for a few years and nobody knows where he went or why ending his final days on earth committed in the Warren Mental Asylum in Pennsylvania the same state he was initially born.

Over the years The Court Of Mysteries remained abandoned at one time for many years it was a Greek Temple but that did not stop the vandals, loiterers or vagrants from eventually destroying its secrets such as totems covered in abalone shells with celestial symbols or the beautiful windows that could absorb moonlight at night.

When I visited The Court Of Mysteries it was just recently purchased so it is private property and yes their are cameras so you cannot cross the wall or explore the inside. One day when the artist who own it restore it they plan on opening up to the public for tours and we will be the first to revisit this site and give our viewers a more in depth look to this very mysterious, historic and conspiring location. Nobody really knows why this temple was built or its true secrets or the fact as to why it was built at night under the stars. Nobody really even knows what happened to Kenneth once the government had caught on to his new invention no less this man was a brilliant yet true American hero who not only fought in WWI but also perhaps saved Santa Cruz from impending disaster!
