I am not a parent, so I can only come at this through the point of view of someone who has gone through these experiences, and this is how I advise people when I get asked about children who do see, hear and have conversations with spirit.

This is part 2 of my story, where as a form of healing, I am recounting some of the events that have effected my spiritual journey, so I thought I would take the opportunity to talk about these experiences and tell you what worked for me during this time of my life, and hope that perhaps there are some things you can gain from this experience.

So as I explained in Part 1 I am registered blind, and so for the first nine years of my life, I attended a school for the visually impaired. As this school catered for children with visual impairments across the whole of South Wales, it was very much a boarding type school and a very closed environment. Most of the people around me that were my age, had either the same level of eyesight or perhaps even worse. Therefore when I did see or perceive things which were unusual it was rarely picked up.

Abnormal Childhood behaviour

As much as I would hate this time in my life, for a large portion of my late teens and early to mid twenties, I have now come to look upon this time as a blessing. Yes the education level run at a rate much slower, and if I had stayed I would have been severely held back in later life, but it gave me the chance to experience this side of myself with the innocence and wonder of a child.

Most of the games I would play, and stories I would derive would come from dreams, where I would visit other realms, where the messages from these nightly visits would influence my play time the next day. There is something to be said for play being the form of expression for what I was experiencing.

From my earliest memory of seeing spirit at age three I can remember interacting with other beings, passed loved ones and as I was in an isolated environment it was not judged of frowned upon. I was able to deal with it naturally.

That being said however, my family life, especially my relationship with my brother Jonathan was very much my anchor, and gradually through this parallel upbringing I would come to appreciate hobbies and interests in the “real” world such as Video games, Mountain walking and a love of American Wrestling.

Non Hollywood frame of reference.

Where I was very lucky in this journey is both my mother and father, though separated, both had a frame of reference for what I was going through. Both having had experiences with the Paranormal themselves and both having members of the family which were involved in spiritual traditions where being sensitive to these “other worlds” was common place.
So there was no Hollywood style fear which I see in a lot of the cases that I have seen when investigating the Paranormal and helping families today. There was also no emphasis on some of the more abnormal or eccentric behaviours I exhibited as a result of my visual impairment. In the video (below) I mention a trait I had when I was young where I would walk up and down the living room telling myself stories, and when I got much older I was urged to stop as my parents could see how this would effect me especially when I would go into mainstream school.

However other than stopping it dead, I was encouraged to transfer what I was doing to something more practical, my parents bought me a Dictaphone for example so I could record the stories that were coming into my mind, and within time, I learned to write short stories and draw comic strips. Though it expresses itself in a different way at the grand old age of 37, I still have that internal dialogue which I use to understand concepts, situations and people I come into contact with. It is also I believe the same trait that allows me to communicate with spirit and deliver readings, insights and understanding when working.
