USS Hornet (CV/CVA/CVS-12) was a United States Navy aircraft carrier of the Essex class. Construction started in August 1942. She was originally named USS Kearsarge, but was renamed in honor of the USS Hornet (CV-8), which was lost in October 1942, becoming the eighth ship to bear the name.

Hornet was commissioned in November 1943, and after three months of training joined the U.S. forces in the Pacific War. She played a major part in the Pacific battles of World War II, and also took part in Operation Magic Carpet, returning troops back to the U.S. Following World War II, she served in the Vietnam War, and also played a part in the Apollo program, recovering astronauts as they returned from the Moon.

Hornet was finally decommissioned in 1970. She was eventually designated as both a National Historic Landmark and a California Historical Landmark, and in 1998 she opened to the public as the USS Hornet Museum in Alameda, California.

The USS Hornet is said to be one of the most haunted places in America. This particular haunted ship was brought to life in the year of 1943. This was a time when warfare was being experienced in the area of the Pacific Ocean. As odd as it may sound, this particular ship earned a number of decorations in her lifetime by the United States Navy. Destroying nearly 1,500 aircraft that belonged to the Japanese, and ruining over one million tons of shipments that belonged to the various enemies that the she had, the USS Hornet has been deemed as one of the most successful ships in the United States today. In the years in which the USS Hornet served America, which totaled right at about twenty seven, it has been estimated that over three hundred people lost their lives onboard the mighty vessel. One of the main culprits of death when it comes to the USS Hornet was the fact that many individuals committed suicide onboard the vessel. There were a great deal of people who lost their lives during the various battles that the ship lingered in the mist of, and, of course, many simply died as a result of tragic accidents onboard this most haunted ship. The United States Navy has confirmed, due to historical facts and figures, that more suicides occurred on this ship than any other ship in this military branch.

As each person who took their last breath on this ship passed, more stories would emerge that would indicate that the vessel was haunted by these lost souls. Individuals who have worked as crew members on this boat, as well as several different visitors to enter in the massive haunted ship have experienced many different types of unexplained phenomenon. It is not unusual for a strange incident to occur with no logical explanation, or for other visual abnormalities to occur. In many instances, various sounds have been heard that simply cannot be explained whatsoever.

Examples of these real ghost stories include those in which tools that individuals were using simply vanished with no trace whatsoever. Many have witnessed various objects onboard the massive shipped being moved from one location to another location. Doors that are extremely heavy and take some real work to manipulate have strangely opened and closed with no assistance from any type of physical source. Many apparitions that are dressed in soldier attire have been witnessed working among the living in the ship, as if they were still alive. In addition to this, many have felt as if they have been touched and/or grabbed by an unknown presence in the ship. In some cases, it seemed as if they were pushed, and then realized that there was no one there….
