The Mystery Spot was founded by a George Prather when in 1939 he was surveying a hillside in hopes of building a summer cabin when he became aware of compass irregularities. Upon further investigation George often felt dizzy in a 150' area which he referred to as a mystery spot. When his cabin fell down the hill it came to rest among the redwoods growing on it thus being inspired by the Oregon Vortex Prather opened his Mystery Spot to the public as a tourist attraction. Since then thousands of people have taken advantage of this optical illusion which gives off the appearance that objects and people defy the laws of physics and gravity. Some theorized that maybe this mystery spot is the work of a meteor or alien spaceship.

This short clip is merely an introduction with a touch of history. It is very short that is because their was an issue with scheduling and their was to many people so we decided to do a brief walk through take some photos and learn about this strange historic site nestled in the twisted grove a redwood forest.

This is a really beautiful location nestled in a rain forest so on our next trip I will take you to this strange spot so we can demonstrate the optical illusion. We will also take you to the Dahlia and Butterfly Garden as well as the Eucalyptus Grove which are nearby. So while you are waiting you can hike in the twisted grove or you can indulge in experimenting at the Mystery Spot as it appears that you can lean past your toes like the historic gallery like the photos you will see towards the end of the video. This is Santa Cruz's if not California's most popular tourist attractions that has been featured in OMNI magazine the series Supernatural and even some books.
