In 1953, Clarita Villanueva was bitten by an invisible monster. Called “The Thing”, this paranormal entity was said to have attacked the young woman in the Philippines capital city of Manila, leaving round, red bite marks all over her skin. Examined by doctors, there was no explanation, with the terrifying, supernatural mystery evolving to Clarita becoming demonically possessed. Screaming, crying, speaking in tongues, she claimed that tall, dark devil men, as well as a small creature with white hair, were responsible for her suffering. In the end, the American minister and missionary Lester Sumrall came to help the possessed young woman, believing that demonic possession and being “bitten by devils” could be cured through divine deliverance and exorcism, with Clarita Villanueva’s case today being remembered as a terrible and violent instance of dark, demonic possession.
