The birth of the Western Pacific Railroad begin in 1862 and was established as an alternative route to the transcontinental railroad. Eventually the railroad went bust then in the early 1900's Keddie Wye and mogul reformed the WP forging a business relationship to try to block from the Union Pacific from expanding and causing the Western Pacific to fold. The bustling line was home to the California Zephyr a luxurious passenger train that traversed the Feather River Canyon from the bay area eventually connecting with Salt Lake City Utah. While the WP had many short lines as well eventually in the early 1980's it was absorbed by the Union Pacific thus any last remaining remnants of its existence were preserved in Portola California to form the WPRM ran by the Feather River Rail Society who volunteers their time to operate this museum which is btw the largest in North America with over 170 pieces of rolling stock. This is a photo gallery teaser trailer since our documentary and videos somehow came up missing I decided to put this together till we can go back make a donation to the museum and re-film all the trains which remain preserved at what once was a diesel shop and Portola depot site. The Western Pacific was one of the most successful freight and passenger lines on the west coast so sad that today it is now a pastime.
