Jerome Sabbota, Layne’s attorney, said Hoffman had been using a synthetic marijuana called K2, or Spice. His client had driven her grandson to a court-ordered drug testing earlier in the day, which was required because of a previous marijuana conviction, the Detroit News reported.

“He had violated his probation and thought he was going to jail,” Sabbota said outside of court, according to the newspaper. “He argued with his grandmother and demanded her car keys and money (to leave).” He died.. she was found guilty.
