Built 1903, Alvin Adams Barn was built with Oregon fir wood for the price of $1800.00
Every hobo from The Leaky Roof would stay in the barn and earn a few dollars by doing chores.
Alvin raised mules for the US Army for WW1.
A single mule brought $400.00 but a match pair brought $1000.00.
Mules that didn't make the grade were shipped for slaughter.
Alvin was boss of the barn but his Wife Paralee ruled the house.
The west addition was added in 1912 and used as a dairy barn.
The barn had a silo but was blown over around 1921 by a tornado.
When my family moved from California in 1979 this farm was our first Missouri home until 1989.
Thank you to Van Adams for letting HPS Explore the barn.
