Emily Morgan Hotel Timeline

Built in 1924 by Ralph Cameron for a Medical Arts Building. Used as Medical Arts Building from 1924 to 1976, housing MD offices and a 50-bed hospital. Thought to have a section devoted to care for psych patients. Had a morgue and a crematorium.

1976 converted into office space.

1977 placed on National Register of Historic places

1984 started use as a hotel. Joined the Hilton Doubletree family in 2012 after renovation

Hotel is built on the site of the Battle of the Alamo in 1836.

Emily Morgan history: Named Emily D. West 1815-1891 – A free woman of mixed race from Connecticut that was contracted to James Morgan in NY as an indentured servant for one year in Morgan’s Point, TX as a housekeeper at a hotel. (Indentured servants took on the surname of their owners in that time) though it is unknown if she took his name. She was kidnapped by the Mexican Army on April 16, 1836.

Battle of the Alamo from Feb 23 – March 6, 1836. Mexican Army was held off for 13 days by (Texian Army or recent immigrants into the US) and a small militia from TN (named for the TN Volunteers led by Davy Crockett) and TX led by James Bowie and William B Travis. Leader of the Mexican Army – General Antonio Lopez De Santa Anna was defeated at the Battle of San Jacinto April 21, 1836. Santa Anna was said to be ‘preoccupied’ in his tent by Emily Morgan and was then caught off guard when Sam Houston and the Texian Army raided the camp. This was the story Sam Houston told during a steamer trip per the Englishman William Bollaert’s journal published in 1956

Architecture Superstition

13-story tower in Gothic style with gargoyles portraying medical ailments and afflictions. There is no 13th floor and no room 1408 – as the numbers add up to 13.
Haunting experiences:

Phones ringing in the middle of the night and no one there when picked up in the middle of the night.

Pillows tossed when cleaning services make the bed.

Sales manager stayed the night and returned to her room to have the bathtub full of blue water.

Doors closing for no reason, sound of hospital carts outside their door, and the 14th floor smells like antiseptic or ‘band-aid’ smell.

Elevators stop at random floors for no reason.

I’m finishing up my trip to Texas today. For our last day, we stayed at Emily Morgan hotel in San Antonio. From the beginning I got a bad vibe. I don’t fuck with demons and shit, never have. I’m not really a guy that’s scared of a lot, I like doing some crazy stuff, but demons and ghosts i’ve never messed with. Starting off with the elevator. Me and my brother were going down the the pool. As a joke, I say out loud “These ghosts are chill, maybe they want to come swimming with us.” Right as I said that the elevator stops. Me and him are both confused because no one pressed the button. I tell him “Someone is probably getting on” The door opens to absolutely no one. I nervously laugh, but thought it was kind of funny because they were proving they were there, which was cool. After a little bit, we went out to dinner. Coming back to the elevator, I say “Uh-oh guys, we might get haunted, very spooky.” Every light in the lobby goes out. The women at the front desk calmly goes “Yep, they heard you.” Well, I was just laughing it off again. We went back, showered, and slept well. All until 5:30 in the morning when my dad taps me on the shoulder and goes “Yo, near the door, there’s a little girl” I just say out loud “what the fuck” as I turn to the hallway area the door was. Right there, a little girl was there for maybe 2 seconds. Needless to say, I was freaked out. So, around 8:30 we wake up and get ready for the day. My brother was on his phone looking through pictures and videos. He says from across from the room “wow really scary Smu-Mustang-Gang, you got me” I go “what are you talking about” and he says “the stupid video you put on my phone at 2:56 this morning” I put nothing on his phone. His phone was also not where he put it the night before. The video was a dark screen and extremely loud breathing I think. I’ll attach the video if anyone wants to check it out or if anyone that knows stuff about these kind of things wants to tell me there thoughts on it.
