The Donkey Steps AKA Crown Steps, along, a cobbled alley, sometimes known as donkey steps, descends to the High Street just by the Old Town Hall. They are also known as Crown Steps, after the Crown Inn (1665) which stood on the site where Lloyds Bank used to be on the High Street below. The Donkey Steps were probably used as a short cut by pedestrians and pack animals before the Tunnel was built.
