Kriegsdenkmal im Gemeinde Park
The monument made of Rüdersdorf limestone is located on the top of the Rodelberg in the Lankwitz community park.
An inner area, accessible via stairs and a wrought iron gate, is bordered by a round architecture with an arcade. Between the arcades on the pillars there are name boards with the names of the 400 fallen Lankwitz soldiers/participants in the war. In the center of the elevated interior area there is a mighty chestnut tree, surrounded by a bench architecture with three integrated steles. A stele bears the inscription “Dead heroes live in the glory of their deeds” (quoted from Stefanie Damit, 1990). Another shows a woman driving a plow. This figure could be interpreted allegorically. For example, it would not be unusual in the thinking of the time to see the fallen soldiers buried on the battlefields as seeds from which the future grows. Above the gabled, The wide entrance has iron numbers from the flanking war years 1914 and 1918 and a sword mounted on the masonry. (Jörg Kuhn
