On this episode of the Monster Men video podcast, we pay homage to one of the true masters of horror, John Carpenter.

Carpenter, especially in the 70's and 80's, made some of the most pivotal and memorable films... both horror and action movies. They include such all-time classics as HALLOWEEN, HALLOWEEN 2, THE THING, THE FOG, PRINCE OF DARKNESS and THEY LIVE. We also discuss non-horror classics like ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK and ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13.

Carpenter not only created one of the most iconic horror figures in Michael Myers, aka The Shape, but HALLOWEEN is widely considered on of the best, and most influential horror movies of all time. It also launched the movie career of Jamie Lee Curtis and gave Donald Pleasence one of his most defining roles, Dr. Loomis.

THE THING was a game changer for the world of special effects and also stands amongst the most beloved and respected horror movies of all time, as well as sci-fi. It also starred Kurt Russell, who teamed with Carpenter for several memorable movies including ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK and BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA. Russell's characters; MacReady, from THE THING, and Snake Plissken, from ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, are both beloved and iconic characters. More great work from Carpenter.

Another John Carpenter trademark is his brilliant use of music, which is instantly recognizable, often imitated and set the bar for setting the tone in a movie.
