Mountain View Cemetery was erected by east bay pioneers in 1863 within the city of Oakland after the city graveyard did not have a enough room to sustain the dearly departed. The cemetery would be designed by Frederick Law Olmsted who believed that man and nature should be in harmony. Today it is over 200 acres, contains nearly 200k interments, gardens, chapels, mausoleums, crypts, Civil War, Chinese and Pioneers sections all within the San Gabriel Mountains. The most famous area of the cemetery is a place called The Millionaires Row which contains some of the most prominent, powerful and wealthy men who made an impact in the state of California. This is a grandiose cemetery one of the finest in the state full of nature, history and lore. Also buried here is Black Dahlia whose murder is still till this day one of the oldest cold cases in LA after her death she was buried here. This is one of the most gorgeous cemeteries in California with cityscapes of Oakland and even the bay on a clear day. This video does not do this place justice over 200 thousand are interred here so much to see in Oakland's most haunted burial ground. If you want to delve more into this cemetery. This is the one place that is a home away from a home in Oakland its pristine, beautiful, serene and history lurks around every turn.
