This post is really more for me than you firtless lol...
Oh boyz and there toys.
However- ever since 1990 I've always wanted to own a genuine NEOGEO AES... i won't bore you with what that games console entails; but understand back in 1990 - this was the arcade in your home. Forget Sega Megadrive or Super Nintendo- those were "kids toys" compared to this...
It really was the same arcade board from the NEOGEO MVS system in your home on a games console - identical games, no conversions - this was literally running the arcade in your living room.
That was the dream back then...
So how much then for this machine in 1990?
Well it was £500, which is £300 more than the normal Megadrive/genesis & SNES.
- but that was just the start.
Most games cost around £40-£60 (remember these prices are in 1990s money, so double that for it to be in our money today practically)

Games on the NEOGEO were usually about £200-275!!! Each!!

But you get what you pay for. This is the arcade in your home. No cuts! Identical.

The size of the cartridges were a clue - they were the size of a VHS tape! (Remember them?)

Later on in the day of the PlayStation and Sega Saturn, neogeo launched the neogeo cd making games now the same price as any other machine of the day - however with a single speed cd drive; the loading times were painful!

- anyway today the neogeo AES is still very very expensive to collect and buy , so i still will probably never ever own one....hell I've actually never ever seen one in person before!

But thankfully we have emulation.

The picture before you is a cheap emulation portable box i bought for about 60 notes. It does everything up to PlayStation 1, but the main thing was its shape and appearance reminded me heavily of the NEOGEO MVS arcades....just shrunk in the wash!

All the joysticks and buttons are microswitched (that satisfying click sound when you move the joystick. ) - and ive customised the entire rig, with the neogeo marquee and artwork, upgraded the buttons to sanwa parts, joystick swapped the ball style into a bat style (much easier to pull off your fireballs in street fighter 2) and im just waiting to have the firm ware updated to get rid of some niggles with certain emulation on certain games (It has about 1000 90s arcade games on here along with Megadrive, snes, PlayStation, game boy &advance etc etc - AND OF COURSE NEOGEO!!)

I know some reading maybe not caring lol

This was just a little project of mine I've been doing over a period of a month or 2, so i could finally own the closest thing i could ever own to a portable neogeo arcade (it is fully portable as has battery) for the cheapest price possible...

- and here is the finished product!!

What a nice unit aye?

Just makes you wanna run your fingers all over those controls lol

The joystick is bliss. Never failing to pull off a "hadooken" on street fighter 2....

Maybe I will upgrade the screen in time, but for now, I have spent less than £100 total (including buying original device) to get it to be what you see in front of you.

I may not ever own an official neogeo, but i can get very close with my own ingenuity.

Much love

Hope you didn't fall asleep reading.
