The infamous Salem witch trials began during the spring of 1692, after a group of young girls in Salem Village, Massachusetts, claimed to be possessed by the devil and accused several local women of witchcraft. In all, 19 innocent people would be hung at Gallows Hill, while 150 more men, women and children (and even a dog) would be accused over the next several months.
One man stood in defiance of his accusers, Giles Corey, who would instead be pressed to death rather than confess to being in league with the devil.

A curse was placed on his accusers, in particular the sheriff who presided over his torture and eventual death. Did that curse then span generations of his successors?
