Old Faces & Tragic Losses - April 7 2022: Go Phantoms!

Their is seven games on this practice real it was a quiet practice three of us last Sunday and three of us just as their was on Wednesday April 3rd. I have learned a long time ago practice is what you make of it. Practice is not bad its a positive thing it allows you to build stamina, develop your shot, get chemistry going and stay in good shape. So whether everyone shows or a few ill take it at this point because we have quite a few injuries on the team at least three right now so practices are short sorry everyone.

We started off a full court game after practicing for the 1st 19 minutes. All three of us made our threes unlike last time everyone got to shoot to make it on in. By the time I finished up with the full court game their was over twenty others waiting to play. People were waiting over an hour to get in on this kind of lame when you can split everyone up and create maybe two full court games out of it. Problem is about half way through the first full court game I stopped running, playing defense etc. Their was a guy trying to push me to the floor, little James got kicked and the only time I got the ball is when I stole it.

Unfortunately, people who come down to the MAC for pick up will never be at our level or caliber. While some are good shooters their decision making process is heavily flawed. Watch how many times these guys miss the hoop, fail to play defense, dont pass etc. For example id run full speed through the key lose my defender then loop back around to point a shot I make many times and wide open never seeing a pass.

To many clicks, big egos and show offs yet none of them are producing good basketball they are just playing to play therefore our players moved over to court C. On court C we had some dude try to tell us they wanted our court Luke said no to the dude and all my players from now on have got to take this stance or these people will infringe on our practices which are key to us winning in league so we cant just be benched or giving up our court when our team is the first ones on an open court!

The second game was of 21 I did so so but the guys blew me away and in the third game we started one and I dipped out because an player who once practiced all last summer and was in a couple games for us ran into me. He told me Aaron passed away a great baller and such sad news. Aaron joined our team over a year ago he got to play I think one game then our season got canceled with covid and all. They ended up for awhile practicing outdoors at Schulz Ranch with the team for a few months.

All we have or any of us have is videos of him making some really great shots. Aaron was driving a tanker here in Nevada and rolled it. Him and I did not always see eye to eye he broke my thumb on accident I came down hard on him thought he was playing a bit to rough honestly but we still continued to ball together.

For some of us guys these videos are not just to share our team footage with the public but its to make our marks with others around us like friends, families and people who support this team and what were trying to do here. Its a huge loss to see that he passed away he never ended up playing for us again but last year I did hoop with him a few times and got a few threes on him. I remember that look he had like oh shit I am in trouble lol but he bounced back gave me a good run on the court which went back and forth between him so real competitive guy good hooper when cutting to the net.

Game four is two on two with Gabe and one of his friends good solid hoopers and Gabe can play defense well. Game five, six and seven were all three on three. We played the entire practice all by shifting over to another court and then bringing a few more guys on to play with our team so it worked out nicely plus I ran into Gabe and he is always down to ball with our team. So many various games on this reel. Luke was busting my balls because games four, five and six it was make it you take it. I was trying to explain to him why this does not work for the team because I want my guys to focus on defense to if you always get the ball your not defending and that does not fit our platform of trying to improve our defense.

I never really enjoyed this style of play because technically it never allows one set of players to play defense and the other to play offense. We just could never get the ball and with my bad knee I took my defense competitiveness down a notch due to my knee being swollen and throbbing although this time I put it in a brace so by game Six/Seven I pumped out two wicked three pointers and two two pointers and had one assist so in the end this turned out to be a fine team practice. Hopefully some of the guys heal up who could not make it. Hopefully others will not have to work on Sunday but I get it some had plans it was really nice out Spring is here so we all get busy.

RIP Aaron Fly Little Brother!
