Michael grew up in suburbs of Rhode Island with the ocean on his doorstep. Though he spent much of his early life exploring the bays, he always heard the call from locations very few have investigated. Next to the woods, his second favorite place was the library. If he wasn’t exploring forests, he was exploring books which often would inspire his next quest.
Michael is a member of the National Speleological Society (NSS), The Explorers Club, and American Spelean History Association (ASHA.) For the past 10 years he has written articles on long-lost historical caves for the Northeastern Cavers Quarterly Journal, and his work has been references in scientific publications. Having journeyed through some of the last great wildernesses, Michael has a particular concern for preserving wild places and historical location.
