Bridal Veil Falls has been a beloved natural beauty for county residents and visitors alike for many years. This is an important reason why Utah County purchased the land five years ago. However, now the Utah County Commission is considering a proposal by developer Richard Losee to turn Bridal Veil Falls into a privately owned addiction recovery center.

According to Mr. Losee's plan, he would limit public access to the falls and charge a fee for some or all of his proposed developments, including a base station, tram, and upper lodge. Under this proposed plan, the public would lose their say in how Bridal Veil Falls is preserved and would lose their right to freely visit this public treasure.

One current county commissioner and one newly elected commissioner have been financially supported by Mr. Losee in their recent political campaigns, and they have both expressed interest in entertaining his proposal. However, two current county commissioners oppose private development of the falls and have brought a proposition to the commission to protect the area within a publicly owned conservation easement. A public hearing on the idea will be held on Wednesday, December 9 at 3pm.

For more details, see this article from the Salt Lake Tribune.

If the county commission acts quickly, they can preserve Bridal Veil Falls as a natural public space for years to come. Add your name to this petition to let them know your support for protecting this important area within a conservation easement.
