In 1909, 45 bodies were relocated from 2 cemeteries to the Sagamore Cemetery to make way for the construction of the Cape Cod Canal. Officials marked the caskets with chalk, but a storm washed away the names so they had to guess where to place each casket to the proper headstones and a lot of bodies are not in their proper plots. A child bride has been seen along with a man wearing a top hat. The care taker felt someone push on his chest late one night and aroma of cigar smoke fills the air in this cemetery. Emory Ellis was a heavy smoker who protested against the removal of his ancestors during construction of the canal.
