St Margaret's Asylum was built in 1777 as The Great Barr Mansion, home of the Scott family, a chapel was added in 1863. It became part of the St Margaret's Asylum in 1910 and many patients have died at the location before its closure in 1978 the building remained in use until 2006.

The Paranormal hauntings and reports include that of Sir Joseph Scott, a grey lady and a child female spirit, disembodied voices and footsteps have also been reported. A small group of locals we met while at the location said they left in fear last time they visited after been touched, hearing dragging noises and growls.
