In this top 5, we check out the most dangerous roads in the world! From the frightening Lefortovo tunnel in Russia to the James Dalton Highway, featured in the tv show Ice Road Truckers, we explore the WORST roads in the world. Places you would NEVER want to drive!


Bam Road, Russia

The Bam Road is a 2,400 mile long stretch of gravel and dirt road in Siberia, Russia. The roadway once served as a service track for the railroad, but it has now been pretty much abandoned and is truly one of the worst roads in the world. The scary danger road features waist high flooded areas, harsh weather, and old bridges made out of rotting boards that have never been repaired. The road is passable only by motorcycles and 4 wheel drive vehicles, and even then, it's one hell of a scary, dangerous ride. To make matters even worse, some areas of the road are 100s of miles from civilization, so if you have an accident, you're pretty much screwed. One of the most dangerous roads in the world.

James W. Dalton Highway, Alaska

If you've seen the History channel show "Ice Road Truckers", you're probably familiar with the James Dalton highway. This road in Northern Alaska is an icey nightmare. It's 414 miles long with only 3 tiny towns along its entire route.
In the winter, the road becomes a solid sheet of ice, with the nearby river sometimes overflowing the highway and freezing.
One mistake while driving the James Dalton Highway and you could slide off the road and be buried in sludge and snow, or even sink into the icey water. It's the ultimate in danger driving, and definitely one of the worlld's most dangerous roads.
And if an accident should occur, there are NO medical facilities anywhere along the 414 mile stretch of road. If you have an accident, you're stuck. And forget calling for help, because there is no radio or cell phone service on the James Dalton Highway. Oh, and did I mention that hungry polar bears are known to wander the region. A little fun fact: Polar bears are the only animals known to actively hunt humans for food.
It is recommended that ANYONE travelling the James Dalton highway in Alaskabring along emergency food and survival gear.

The Cliffhanger Road, India

The Killar-Kishtwar Road is a 145 mile road that is carved into the side of a cliff in Kashmir, India. The narrow winding road has no guardrail, and if you make a mistake and get too close to the edge, it's an over 1000 foot drop to the valley below. The rock above the road is so low that cars barely fit in some spots and the road passes through several natural waterfalls, and can get very muddy and slippery after rain.
Even more frightening, there are many hairpin turns along the winding cliff-side pass, which has led to the India road receiving the much-deserved nickname "The Cliffhanger".

The Tunnel of Death, Russia

The Lefortovo Tunnel is a tunnel in Moscow that runs beneath the Yauza River. It is one of the longest in-city tunnels in all of Europe. At first look, it seems like an ordinary tunnel, except for the fact that the tunnel has been the site of a surprising number of strange car crashes. Because of the many accidents, the Tunnel has been nicknamed "The Tunnel of Death".
Scientists believe that the many accidents may be caused by water leaking onto the road from the river above and freezing, causing dangerous icey spots and patches along the tunnel road.

The North Yungas Road is a 50 mile long path that was carved into the side of the Cordillera Oriental Mountain chain in the 1930s using forced prison labor. The road is only 3.2 metres (10 ft) wide and lacks guardrails along most of its length. One wrong turn and it's a 2,000 ft drop to the ground below.

As if all that doesn't already sound ball-shrinkingly scary on its own, the road also often experiences heavy rain and fog, dangerous mudslides, and tumbling rocks.
An estimated 200 to 300 people die on the North Yungas Road every year. At one point, it was even estimated that one car per week fell over the edge. Many crosses and altars mark the spots where people have lost their lives along the road.
The North Yungas Road of Bolivia has been nicknamed "The Death Road" and labeled as the most dangerous road in the world.
