We welcome you to take a spiritual and cultural journey to a very significant ancient site that was sacred to the Western Shoshone Indians for thousands of years also known as Potts Cave. Come journey with us as we take on Big Smoky and Monitor Valley. Some stops along the way will be hiking along the top of the Toquima Range where the desert meets the Toiyabe National Forest. I will also take you through vast expanses, remote roads through a free range and to the sacred Spencer hot springs where you will be able to see the beautiful Toiyabe Mountains to the west and up over the Toquima range to the east. The natives traded with other tribes to obtain materials to create various pigments to be used in there abstract paintings. The paints would be made out of gypsum, nuts, berries, Goethite, bird droppings, clay, chalk and anything else they could gather. Some of the brushes they may have used came from animal hair or perhaps various grasses while other ones were finger painted. This great basin tribe used a curvilinear style which is squiggles, dots and circles to depict there art. Some say that you can hear the spirits of the forest along the trail to the cave and we hope to share this journey with you nestled deep in the heart of ancient Nevada. At the end of the video you can view our gallery of the scenery and cave.
