Thom Reed and members of his family were among a number of people in Great Barrington, Stockbridge, Egremont and Sheffield, Mass. who witnessed a strange object in the skies over their towns on the night of September 1, 1969. The sighting became known as " The Berkshires UFO Encounter" and drew national attention as well as a declaration by the State of Massachusetts that the events that transpired that evening were recognized as factual. It is also the first UFO case to be officially deemed historically true in the United States.
