A total of six hangings took place in prison between 1880 and 1931
In 1990, the prison was replaced by the Talbot detention center (or Talbot prison) located about two kilometers southwest of the city. Since its closure, the prison has been part of a heritage area of the city. In April 2007, the Régie du bâtiment condemned the building because of its advanced dilapidation.
