Cilurnum (Chesters) : A Roman Cavalry Fort on Hadrian's Wall - A Photographic Study

Chesters is one of a series of permanent forts built during the construction of Hadrian’s Wall. The cavalry fort, known to the Romans as Cilurnum, was built in about AD 124. It housed some 500 cavalrymen and was occupied until the Romans left Britain in the 5th century.

Spanning Hadrian's Wall the site contains the visible remains of the walls and gates, the Commandants House, Barracks, Granary, Headquarters Building with Strongroom, the Bridge Abutment and the well-preserved baths

and there is also what I consider the best Roman museum in Britain there as well
