Part one of our investigation of Letchworth Village, an abandoned asylum in upstate New York.

Letchworth Village was a residential institution in Thiells, NY, for the physically and mentally handicapped. It opened in 1911 and was finally closed in 1996 after many years of reports of ill treatment of its residents.

Its buildings and grounds now sit abandoned but policed by local authorities. Those who live in the area walk their dogs here and it is open to the public during daylight hours. You can walk the grounds, but cannot enter the now-crumbling structures.
