Mr. Bowman used to sell leather to the US government in 1852 through his company, Tannery Crossing, during the Civil War. Which made him a fortune. His family home Laurel Hall was built in 1882 across from the cemetery, where the Bowman mausoleum was later built. There is a room in Laurel Hall preserved in its original place in time. People have stated it's like looking at a time capsule as it has not changed from its original Era.
After his family tragically passed away his child first then his wife followed.

The Bowman Mausoleum was built directly across from Laurel Hall so that Mr. Bowman could have a view of his family's resting place.
He spent his entire fortune trying to use the occult to bring his family back from the grave. He had the grieving sculpture version of himself created and installed on the tomb’s steps ready to unlock the mausoleum should his family return from the grave.

He retired to Laurel Hall in 1887. He had paid his Butler and Maid before his passing in 1891 to maintain the house and routine of setting dinner plates every night should he and his family reincarnate, returning home to feast.

There have been some occurrences said to happen at Laurel Hall. Some have heard cries of a baby emanating from Laurel Hall said to be the 4 month child of Bowman. Others claimed to have seen an apparition of an unknown woman have been seen throughout the mansion, going about her business. Some say if you stand on the top of the stairs on the dark stained spot, a feeling of uneasiness sets in over you. The Dark spot may be linked to the deaths of the Bowman's.

There has been talk of a spirit that appreciates manners as well. The story goes that a little girl who visited the Bowman mansion stuck her tongue out at a picture on display the picture, then came off the wall hitting the child.

There's talk of Bowmans sculpture, also known as Bowman's Golem, kneeling at his family's mausoleum, creaking to life every so often at night under the light of the moon to walk the Laurel Hill cemetery, making sure all are resting in peace.
