I would hit the rugged Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest on foot all alone in search of ruins or any secrets the town would give up. The scenery on this trek is really gorgeous as ill take you to nearly the very top of not only Rockland Canyon but the Pine Grove Hills. Their is still some snow up here on the peaks one can only imagine what the pioneers had to endure living up here in such a remote rugged terrain. In a sense this place is so quiet and serene its a bit eerie in a sense. You can see that fog is starting to roll in also and the skies are darkening. I was to far into the hike to try to get out of here therefore we were at the mercy of mother nature at this point. When you get to the top of the range you can see rolling hills eventually I skirt the top of the canyon looking below at what use to be downtown Rockland. One can imagine that back in the 1800's when you stood above the canyon you could see saloons with lights on, candles in miner cabins and even hearing a fiddle playing back in the day. Eventually I would descend down into the canyon through the forest where my family waited at the town site. I did end up also taking a spill the loose rocks around this town site make navigating on foot very difficult.
